Highley Station

The station is largely unchanged from when it was built in 1862. In those days it was an important transport hub for the four coal mines located nearby. It has often been featured in film and TV productions and has great character and charm.

It’s a very short walk from the station to the SVR’s Visitor Centre at The Engine House. Admission is free, and from the first-floor balcony, you can enjoy splendid views of trains passing on the line below. Inside, you can get up close and personal with a number of out-of-service locomotives, along with a travelling Post Office and King George VI’s royal saloon. There are a number of railway-related exhibitions, a café and a gift shop.

It’s possible to get to Highley village by public transport, then it’s a 20-minute walk to the station. There’s limited parking at The Engine House (15 vehicles) and further parking at the nearby Severn Valley Country Park.
