The Severn Valley Railway is a thriving heritage organisation where the most important moving parts are our volunteers
We are far more than just a railway, we also have two pubs, three gift shops, several museums, an archive and various food outlets. We repair, refurbish and paint our own locomotives, carriages, wagons, benches, signposts and even print our own tickets. We also cut all our own grass, paint our own fences and tender our own gardens.
If you are looking to build friendships, learn new skills and enjoy a host of new experiences then we can find a place to suit your interests and skills in one of the teams that make up our extensive family.
Some of the roles require study, training and examinations that take months, or even years to master. Others just need enthusiasm and common sense where you can get started straight away.
You’ll be made very welcome, and you’ll be helping to preserve an important part of Britain’s heritage. Many people make life-long friendships at the SVR, and find enjoyment, purpose and a deep satisfaction for a job well done.
If you’d like more information please fill out our volunteer enquiry form and we will be in touch. Alternatively, you can get in touch with our Volunteer Liaison Office (VLO) at [email protected] or phone 01299 401776. The VLO website has lots of information about the different roles and what volunteering involves.
