Boogie Lights Express at the Severn Valley Railway: Experience partying from the ’60s to modern day
Volunteer Will stepped aboard our Boogie Lights Express and gave us his experience of the Severn Valley Railway’s newest event.
Catching a train has been upgraded to an amazing adventure, dazzling with light shows and the biggest hits from Abba to Taylor Swift!
In time for their celebration of the 60th anniversary, the Severn Valley Railway is offering the chance of a lifetime to party with them every Friday and Saturday until 29 March. So you don’t want to miss it!
After checking in and grabbing our free light-up wristbands, we took a peek at the vast array of other light-up products that were up for grabs. Starting from only £1, you could deck yourself out with glasses, headbands and other items and trust me, if you don’t, you’ll 100% feel left out.
Whilst waiting for the train to arrive (as it was advised that we to arrive about 30/45 minutes early) we took ourselves over to the on-site King & Castle Pub for a quick drink. If having a pint isn’t your style, there was a smaller tuck-shop situated next to the line where you could purchase drinks and snacks to take on-board with you.
The journey itself started at 6pm and after watching the heavily-lit train pull in (and I really mean heavily-lit – I dread to see their electricity bill), everyone stepped inside. The carriages were stunning and the interior was equally as illuminated as the outside, with lights cascading from the ceiling that changed in time with the music. Talking of music, the playlist was stacked with iconic tracks ranging from Queen to Rihanna, making sure that everyone could claim a song as their favourite.
Leading the experience was Peter Dickson (the voice-over on X-Factor and Britain’s Got Talent), whose jokes made us all laugh (and groan admittedly), and as he narrated our journey, we were able to take part in the “FlashyOke” game – where, via the colour that your wristband automatically changed to, you would sing as part of teams. A train-full of people singing ‘You’re the One That I Want’ from the movie Grease at varying skill-levels was the result and whilst we may not have won any awards, the way people were partying – we might as well have!
After 70 fun-filled minutes, we pulled back into Kidderminster station, reaching modern day in both music and real-life – a shame in my opinion because it was so much fun I wish it would have lasted even longer. Would I go to the Severn Valley’s Boogie Light Express again? Of course! It is the perfect night for everyone: families, friends or just people wanting to let off a little steam!
So buy your tickets for the Boogie Lights Express, do some vocal exercises, and get on board – and choo-choose this show-stopping experience!
