Summer fun – Robin Hood and his Merry Friends
Join us for a summer of fun
We can’t wait to welcome you on board the Severn Valley Railway this summer. Step back in time to the golden age of travel with both steam and diesel hauled trains.
We’re offering a Free Return Visit this summer. The offer is available on pre-booked ‘Freedom of the Line’ tickets purchased online, for travel between Tuesday 21 July 2026 and Monday 31 August 2026. (See below for terms and conditions)
On selected dates starting Tuesday 21 July, families can watch a live theatre show – Robin Hood and his Merry Friends. Wise Owl Theatre have produced this live theatre production of Robin Hood, featuring animal puppets. The production has been created for Nottingham Puppet Festival and now comes to you, at The Engine House, Highley.
Sherwood Forest is a happy home for Robin Hood and his animal friends. But when the Sheriff of Nottingham announces plans to cut the forest down, it’s not just the trees at risk – it’s the homes and lives of the animals who depend on it. Robin Hood and his woodland companions must work together, with the help of the audience, to outwit the Sheriff and save Sherwood for future generations.
This immersive theatre experience is packed with playful panto moments, puppets and plenty of audience interaction. Robin Hood and his Animal Friends is a joyful, family friendly show celebrating teamwork, bravery, and care for our environment.
The theatre show lasts around 30 minutes and takes place on Tuesdays to Thursdays on the following dates:
- 4 – 6 August
- 11 – 13 August
- 18 – 20 August
- 25 – 27 August
The theatre show is free of charge to those who travel by heritage train and places can be booked via the website (50 places per show). Tickets can be selected at the checkout stage when booking online.
Alongside the theatre shows, we have TrainTimeUK back at The Engine House with their giant trainset. Available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11am to 3.30pm.
On Saturdays (until the end of August) we’ll be operating timetable D. Tuesdays to Thursdays and Sundays we’ll be operating timetable C.
We are currently running trains with diesel locomotives operating due the fire risk level during the prolonged dry spell.
There’s so much to see, do and discover including The Engine House Visitor Centre. Alight at Highley Station and then it’s just a short walk to The Engine House where you can get close to some very special locomotives, including ‘Gordon’ the blue engine, and take a peek through the windows of King George VI’s royal carriage. There’s a café, balcony to watch the trains, gift shop and plenty to keep everyone occupied.
