GWR ‘14XX’ Class 0-4-2T No. 1450

Built at No. 4850 at Swindon Works for the GWR in 1935, this useful locomotive was initially based at Oxford for use on light passenger and trip freight work. It was renumbered to 1450 in 1946 and moved to Slough from where it was used on pull-push autotrains. It later moved to the West Country and was eventually retired in May 1965.
Its early preservation days were spent at the South Devon Railway and arrived at the SVR via the Dean Forest Railway in March 2014. No. 1450 returned to steam after an overhaul at the Flour Mill Workshops in the Forest of Dean, towards the end of 2024. It has seen regular use over the winter months working auto-trains, including in ‘sandwich’ mode between a pair of auto-trailers, a sight rarely seen these days. The locomotive is currently wearing an early lined-BR green livery with the familiar ‘cycling lion’ from the 1950s on its side tanks.
