The Engine House - Severn Valley Railway

You’ll want to make time to visit the jewel in the crown of the SVR! Our visitor centre is close to Highley station, and it’s where you can get up-close-and-personal with some very special locomotives.

Check out the impressive blue-liveried LMR 600 ‘Gordon’, as well as LMS Stanier 8F 48773, which had a famous encounter with a camel in World War II, and many more full-size, out-of-service engines. New engine for 2026, GWR 9017 ‘Dukedog’!

Admission to The Engine House is free, open from 10.45am, when normal services operate. Open and closing times may vary during events. You can view the railway’s calendar here.

You can peek through the windows of King George VI’s royal carriage, and guided tours are offered whenever possible. Then there’s the Travelling Post Office where children can show off their sorting skills, and a host of exhibits that bring to life the history of Britain’s railways and the Severn Valley Railway in particular.

There’s an extensive outdoor play area for children, a café and gift shop, and we often put on special events such as craft sessions and activities during school holidays.
