Half term steam adventures
Enjoy a journey on the Severn Valley Railway this October half term break. Don’t miss The Engine House Visitor Centre at Highley or the beautiful autumn colours of the Severn Valley. Trains will be running daily throughout half term from Saturday 24 October through to Sunday 1 November 2026.
Climb on board a heritage diesel or steam-hauled train, and see what you can spot as you travel past incredible views and stunning stations. Families receive a complimentary Eye Spy booklet to test their powers of observation during the journey.
Half way along the line is The Engine House Visitor Centre at Highley, where families can get hands-on sorting mail in the travelling post office. Entry to The Engine House is free, but parking is very limited. The best way to get there is by heritage train. The Engine House is open from 10.45am to 4.30pm (last entry 4pm).
Special events during half term:
- Christmas Gift Fayre – Saturday 24 – Sunday 25 October
- Train Time UK – giant train set at the Engine House – Monday 26 to Wednesday 28 October from 11am to 3pm.
- Ghost Trains – Thursday 29, Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October

Important Information:
- Purchase tickets in advance and save up to 20%. Tickets can also be purchased on the day from the booking office.
- Freedom of the Line tickets offer travel all day, or there are short journey options available from each end of the line to Highley or Arley.
- Small Family tickets permit travel for one adult and up to two children. Large Family tickets permit travel for two adults and up to four children.
- First class seating may be available on the day, supplement payable to the Travelling Ticket Inspector on the train.
- The Engine House, visitor centre at Highley, is open 10.45am-4.30pm (last entry 4pm).
